State Testing Season Upon Us
State testing season is here. Our students, teachers, staff, administrators, and families have done so much to prepare for this particular season.
As you know, Arkansas students in grades 3-8 will be taking a new assessment called ATLAS, short for Arkansas Teaching and Learning Assessment System. Students will be tested in the content areas of English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics, and science. Ninth and tenth grade students will take End of Course exams for Algebra I, geometry, and biology.
We always stress the importance of attending school every day. We know that students learn best when they are in the classroom. When it comes to state testing, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for students to be at school and on time. Students that do not test will cause the school to be open to penalties from the Arkansas Department of Education.
Please be on the lookout for communication from your student's school for exact testing dates.
In addition, here are some tips to implement during the testing period:
- Make sure your child gets an ample, normal amount of sleep the night before the test.
- Mark testing days on your calendar to help remind you and your child when the testing will take place and plan your preparations.
- The student should eat a nutritious and filling breakfast. Avoid high sugar cereals which can make the student hyper and/or unfocused. Remember we always have nutritious breakfast!

- If you child is sick please contact the school immediately to inform them.
- Plan for a fun outing or treat for your child after the test has been completed.
- Have the child visualize success. Encourage them to rehearse what it will feel like to get a good score on the test.
State Basketball Tournament, Superintendent's MVPs
We have enjoyed hosting the Class 6A State Basketball Tournament in Charging Wildcat Arena! We enjoy having people taking the time to watch some great basketball being played.
Dr. Gregory Pilewski, our Superintendent, wanted to invite some special elementary students and their families enjoy the atmosphere in the Arena. These students have been dubbed "The Superintendent's MVPs." They were selected by their principal for this honor as a result of their good behavior and academic focus.
The MVPs were recognized at halftime. We are so proud of these students and commend them on their behavior and commitment to academic excellence.
Special thanks to Dr. Torrye Hooper, Deputy Superintendent; Mr. Wes Bilon, Director of Student-Athlete Development and Academic Engagement; and Mr. Johnny Rice, former Head Boys Basketball Coach and six-time state championship coach for joining us on this moment.
